You can see Metroid Prime : Hunters in action before it’s released thanks to Eurogamer. Around a minutes worth of video showing game footage can be viewed in their Eurogamer TV section.
You won’t find any major revalations in the video but you will get an idea what the action will be like with several different enemies and weapons on display. On the same site you can also see video footage of Rub Rabbits.

New DS Star Wars Game Rumours Confirmed

Eurogamer have reported that the rumours of a new Star Wars game for the Nintendo DS are true. You will soon have some more Star Wars action on your DS thanks to Ubisoft.

Little has been given away about the game so far except that it’s an action game called Star Wars Shadow Strike and is scheduled for release at the end of May.

1 million WiFi users for DS

Less that 4 months after it opened, Nintendo’s Wi-Fi Connection service reached 1 million users.

A gamer in Japan who signed on to play Animal Crossing : Wild World pushed the number of registered users over the milestone. Wi-Fi Connection is Nintendo’s free to use wireless gaming network that allows you to play over the Internet with other gamers anywhere in the world.

According to Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales & marketing, Reggie Fils-Aime, “Players are embracing our model of a compelling, safe, easy-to-use wireless gaming service.” “Those 1 million users represent more than 27 million game sessions.”

Nintendo’s Wi-Fi Connection will be given a boost in March when the Wi-Fi enabled games Tetris DS and Metroid Prime: Hunters are released in North America.

DSLinux release DS browser before Opera

DSLinux.org have beaten Opera to release the first working web browser for the Nintendo DS. It was announced on the 27th of February that the open source text browser retawq had been successfully compiled and run on DSLinux

Few details are given on their website but they do show screenshots of retawq running on both iDeaS emulator and on a DS running DSLinux.

DSLinux is one of the growing number of homebrew DS applications and aims to allow Linux to run on the Nintendo DS.

DS Lite in the UK before August

The rumored 16th of August U.K. release date for the DS Lite may be way off the mark. And for once the actual release date might be earlier than first thought!

Nintendo have flatly refused to comment “on rumor and speculation“

It has been widely reported the DS Lite will be released in Europe on the 16th of August date with a EUR 129 price tag but gamesindustry.biz have been assured buy their sources that “We’ll see it sooner than that“.

The popular free web browser Opera will be making it’s way to the Nintendo DS this year.

By simply plugging the Opera browser cart into you DS you can fully brows the Internet. The browser uses both of the consoles screens and lets you easily navigate the web using the stylus and touch screen. No pricing or availability details are available as yet, though it is expected to be released in Japan first.

Turn your DS into a PDA

Shaun Taylor over at www.youngmx.com is working on a personal organizer for the Nintendo DS. Although its only at the beta stage and still has some know bugs to be fixed Shaun points out that ‘it is quite usable’.

Brain Games

Pretty soon you will be able to work those mental muscles with the release of the oddly titled Big Brain Academy and Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day. Due for release in North America this summer both games are based on the work of Japanese neuroscientist Professor Ryuta Kawashima and have been very popular in Japan.

Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day is released on April 17 and offers the player a range of fun mental tasks including memory, reading, mathematical and sudoku puzzles. Full use is made of the DS’s touch screen with players writing their answers PDA style.

Big Brain Academy is released on May 30 and runs along a similar theme. Each task takes about a minute to complete and up to 8 players can play along with a single cart.

Lighter Brighter DS

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has announced that a slimline version of the DS, the Nintendo DS Lite will be released in Japan this year. This confirms the rumours that have been all over the Internet in the past few months that a redesign of the DS was coming in 2006.

20% lighter and only two thirds the size of the current Nintendo DS the new model features higher quality screens with brightness controls and will keep the ability to play Game Boy Advance games.

Due to become available in Japan only this coming March the DS Lite will be available in 3 colours though the only image released so far is of a white case.

More hotspots for the UK

Nintendo DS gamers in the U.K. will soon have access to more free Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the country. Speaking at the Science Museum in London, Nintendo’s UK general manager David Yarnton said that 1000 new hotspots would be installed over the coming months. Like those already installed the new hotspots will be set up in public places such as cafes and libraries.

David Yarnton was at the Science Museum for a special event to promote some of the DS titles to be launched in Europe over the next few months.
